OpenAI’s app store for GPTs will launch next week

+ an advanced version of Bard is coming soon!

Welcome back.

Today we cover the OpenAI GPT app store that will launch next week, and how Google appears to be working on an advanced version of Bard.

So let’s take a look at what’s featured in our fifth edition..

📰 OpenAI’s app store for GPTs will launch next week

OpenAI is set to introduce a marketplace for GPT-based applications, leveraging its AI text-generation models like GPT-4, expected to go live within the next week.

Screenshots of an email from OpenAI have been circulating on social media, outlining that developers creating GPT-based apps must align with the latest usage policies and GPT brand guidelines to qualify for listing in this marketplace, termed the GPT Store. Developers are required to complete their user profiles and set their GPTs to “public” status.

The concept of the GPT Store was first unveiled at OpenAI’s inaugural DevDay conference last year. However, its launch was postponed in December, likely due to significant organizational changes at OpenAI following the events of November. These events involved a temporary change in leadership, with CEO Sam Altman initially leaving and then reinstated with a new board.

GPTs are designed for ease of use, not requiring programming expertise. They can range from simple to complex, such as a GPT trained on cookbooks to assist with culinary queries, or one that processes a company’s codebase to help developers adhere to best coding practices.

Developers can specify desired functionalities in simple language, and OpenAI’s GPT Builder aims to create a chatbot equipped with these capabilities. Since DevDay, developers have been able to create and share GPTs on the ChatGPT website, though not for public listing.

The introduction of GPTs represents a democratization of generative AI application development, particularly for apps utilizing OpenAI’s suite of models. This development could potentially disrupt the consultancy market, which largely focuses on creating similar GPT-based solutions for clients.

📰 Google appears to be working on an ‘advanced’ version of Bard that you have to pay for

Google is reportedly developing an enhanced version of its AI tool Bard, named "Bard Advanced," which might be accessible via a subscription to Google One. This information comes from developer Dylan Roussel, who previously shared details on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Bard Advanced is believed to utilize Google's top-tier large language model (LLM), Gemini Ultra, as per Roussel's insights. This represents a step up from the existing Bard version that operates on the mid-tier Gemini Pro. Roussel also shared screenshots indicating that Bard Advanced is described as a more proficient large language model with improved mathematical and reasoning abilities. Additionally, developer Bedros Pamboukian found code suggesting the development of an "advanced" tier for Google's AI tool.

Roussel unveiled further updates, including a feature named Motoko, potentially allowing the creation of custom bots. It's unclear if these bots can be shared or if access to this feature will require payment. Comparatively, last year, OpenAI allowed its GPT Plus subscribers to create and share custom bots.
